Shortwaves
In the short relaxation period of the communist regime in the 1960s, the young self-taught musicologist Cornel Chiriac became the most popular pop-rock DJ in Romania. Suffocated by censorship and the harassment of the Securitate (the secret police), he decides to defect to the West. He is hired by Radio Free Europe where his music show turns him into a living legend for young listeners behind the Iron Curtain – but also a priority target of the Securitate. In 1975, aged 33, he was assassinated in Munich.
